GTD (Getting Things Done) Evangelism
In an earlier post I mentioned David Allen's book 'Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-free Productivity'. Since reading it, I've become a little bit of an evangelist for its methods. It really does reduce the amount of stress in your life when you feel like your time is being used well. I spend a lot of time doing things I have to do, and that makes it all the more important that I spend my free time doing the things that are important to me.
In the interests ofconverting more people introducing the methods in the book to more people, I've put together an unscientific quiz. If you answer yes to any of the questions below, you might want to get your hands on a copy of 'Getting Things Done'.
Do you go to bed worried you won't remember all the tasks that need to be done the next day?
Do you have lots of to-do lists that don't actually help you get tasks done?
Do you often find yourself bothered by tasks you meant to get done but never seem to be able to find time to do?
Do you find yourself unable to focus on the task at hand because you're distracted by trying to remember the other tasks you need to get done?
Do you find that you're missing deadlines for important tasks because you get overwhelmed by less important tasks?
Do you find yourself staying late at work because it feels like if you don't do that one task right this minute it'll never get done?
Do you feel frustrated at the end of the day/week because you feel like your time has been wasted?
Does the disorganization of other people often disrupt your life?
GTD won't give you more than 24 hours in the day and it won't make the annoying people at work any less annoying, but it will give you better control over how you spend your time. And that's worth a lot.
